My flight went smoothly despite delays and I finally landed in San José. I went through customs, exchanged some money, and went to look for a taxi. I went to the street and flagged down a local taxi. Juan Carlos took me to my homestay (yes, I made friends with the taxi driver). This is one taxi ride that I will never forget; I had not idea what San José was like until I took this ride. It was absolute chaos; no street signs, no lines on the road, constant honking, and optional red lights/stop signs. Quite the experience! My host family is more than I could have asked for. Kenneth, Mariela, and cute little Monserrath greeted me with open arms.

The next day I met all of my housemates (all six of them). I am looking forward to getting to know each of them better. This weekend has been pretty uneventful. It was difficult with the family working, my housemates out of town for the weekend, and me not knowing where anything is in San José. I ventured out and explored the neighborhood. I found a soda (local cafe) with amazing food. Raymond, the owner, helped me as I ordered my first meal. I already revisited today after my orientation for school. Everyone here has been so helpful so far as I try and communicate in my broken Spanish.
Great post! Love the contrast in the weather! Have a great time Renee.
