As you all can tell, I am horrible at blogging on a regular basis. After the first two weekends of traveling and me feeling under the weather my third week of class, we decided to have a lazy weekend in San Jose. We took a day trip to Cartago, a neighboring city about 45 minutes away, to see one of the countries most famous churches, The Basilica. It was surprising to find Mass in session on a Friday but it was interesting to see a service in Spanish. My favorite part of Cartago was the massive fruit market in the center of town.

Week four came with the end of my first Spanish class. This weekend my roommates and I decided to stay in town again and plan two different day trips. Saturday we took a bus to the closest beach to San Jose, Jaco, and on Sunday we went white water rafting in The Pacuare River. Jaco is definitely not known for its beautiful sand beaches but it gets the job done. Because it is only an hour and a half bus ride, it is a popular weekend destination for students in San Jose. White water rafting has been one of the highlights of my trip thus far. The Pacuare River took us on an eighteen mile, four hour long, journey toward The Caribbean Ocean. The river runs through one of the last remaining areas in Costa Rica where native villages can be found. We enjoyed a lovely picnic with some wild pigs part way through our trip. I am excited to compare white water rafting in Colorado to my Costa Rica experience in the future.
